It’s a proven fact that anyone can laugh for 15-20 minutes without depending upon a sense of humor or comedy. As a result there are currently over 5,000 Laughter Clubs in 53 countries around the world. Over 200 of these clubs are in the United States. They all are fully independent and each club determines their meeting frequency.
All are not-for-profit, non-religious, non-political and non-competitive community-based associations of diverse people where all are welcome regardless of age, gender, physical abilities, social or economic backgrounds. They use the Laughter Yoga method of laughing for no reason as a form of exercise.
Laughter Clubs are coordinated by Certified Laughter Yoga Leaders who have been trained in the methods of Laughter Yoga’s physician founder, Dr. Madan Kataria.
A typical Laughter session includes easy stretches, yogic breathing and simple, structured laughter exercises. There is nothing strenuous…. if it’s not fun…we don’t do it.
The good news is everyone can laugh. You don’t need to have a sense of humor, you don’t need to feel good first, you don’t have to be happy and you don’t have to have a reason to laugh.
It is purely a physical method, not a mental practice. Anybody can do it because there is nothing required and nothing to understand. It does not matter where you come from, what language you speak or how challenged or stressed you may be. All that information is stored in your brain and there is no need for a brain at a Laughter Club.
Laughter Clubs are not about jokes or comedy and no one is ever put down in any way, shape or form. It is just a place where you will laugh like you have never laughed before and you will leave feeling refreshed and invigorated.
Laughing with others is a great way to build bridges and to promote peace in the community. Besides feeling great our social and communication skills are improved, our spirits are lifted and we feel more self-confident and joyful.
And if that isn’t enough research has proven that ONE MINUTE of hearty laughter is equal to TEN MINUTES of rowing or jogging!!!
